Project Overview

Riverview Park Field in Pittsburgh, PA was once a forgotten valley—a former dump filled with mill by-products and industrial waste throughout the 1960s and ’70s. Fenced off and closed to the public, the site sat untouched for decades, posing safety concerns and serving as a blight to the surrounding community.

The vision to transform this site into a vibrant public space was championed by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and made possible by Director of Operations Duane Ashley. McKinley Sports, in collaboration with D’Appolonia Inc., led the extensive environmental permitting and site redevelopment process. Together, the team worked to cap and fill the site using more than 40,000 cubic yards of off-site fill, stabilized by a two-tiered retaining wall and enhanced with sports fencing.

Today, the revitalized park includes modern restrooms, two parking lots, a walking track, and a premier turf soccer field—turning a once-closed area into a welcoming hub for recreation and community gathering.
