The Carter Field project in Titusville, Pennsylvania, is a comprehensive athletic facility renovation led by McKinley Sports (formerly JTSA Sports), in partnership with Churches Engineering, LLC. McKinley Sports is a full-service sports architecture and engineering firm with over 60 years of combined experience, specializing in sports and recreation design, engineering, and construction management across professional, collegiate, scholastic, and municipal projects nationwide.
This project focuses on converting an existing natural grass football field into a high-performance synthetic turf field engineered for durability, enhanced playability, and effective drainage. Due to the field’s location in a sump with limited natural outflow, the design raises the playing surface with structural fill to enable positive stormwater drainage directed to a municipal inlet on South Brown Street. Retaining walls are engineered around the field to support the fill and prevent structural impacts on existing grandstands and stadium infrastructure.
The synthetic turf system design will provide a modern, all-weather surface capable of supporting multi-sport use with improved safety and maintenance benefits. The scope includes grading and drainage engineering, detailed construction documents for field subgrade, stormwater management plans, erosion and sediment control measures, permitting coordination including NPDES, and ongoing construction observation to ensure quality and compliance.
McKinley Sports leverages extensive expertise to deliver sustainable, high-performance sports facilities that meet community and regulatory needs, improving athletic infrastructure and user experience.
