Project Overview

After multiple unsuccessful bidding attempts that exceeded the district’s budget, the Armstrong Area School District sought a firm with true expertise in athletic facility design and construction. They needed a partner who not only understood the complexities of sports architecture but could also navigate the financial and logistical challenges that had stalled the project for years. That’s when they turned to McKinley Sports (formerly JTSA Sports).

From the outset, McKinley Sports brought a focused and strategic approach to the project, working closely with the district to fully understand their vision and financial parameters. The goal was clear: deliver a high-quality, functional stadium without compromising the budget or schedule. JTSA led the development of construction documents for key components of the project, including the grandstands, press box, and track. By leveraging pre-approved state contracts and a streamlined bidding process, the team was able to control costs and move the project forward without further delays.

But the vision for the stadium didn’t stop there. In partnership with Gateway Engineers and IKM, McKinley Sports helped launch a transformative second phase of the project. This phase introduced a new field house to support student-athletes, a welcoming stadium entrance, a fan-friendly plaza, and an expanded parking area designed to improve circulation and accessibility on game days.

Through collaborative design, careful project management, and a deep understanding of sports-specific needs, the team delivered a stadium that not only met the district’s expectations—it exceeded them. Today, River Hawk Stadium stands as a vibrant centerpiece of the community—a place where students, families, and fans come together to cheer on their teams and celebrate the spirit of high school athletics.
