McKinley Sports was brought in by West Virginia University to identify and resolve structural issues at the Caperton Indoor Football Practice Facility, where one corner of the turf field had noticeably lifted. Suspecting soil expansion beneath the surface, McKinley Sports partnered with Gateway Engineers’ geotechnical team to perform a thorough investigation of the site conditions.
After pinpointing the underlying cause, our team developed a strategic and cost-effective solution to correct the problem and reduce the risk of future movement—without requiring a full replacement of the facility’s foundational soils. The scope included a custom drainage system and redesigned turf field engineered for long-term performance.
Following design development, McKinley Sports managed the public bidding process and provided construction observation services throughout the renovation. Despite a tight window between spring and summer practices, the project was completed on schedule with minimal disruption to WVU Football’s training calendar, restoring the facility to full functionality and ensuring its continued reliability.
