In 2014, McKinley Sports (formerly JTSA Sports) was selected to lead the design of the artificial turf baseball field system for the new WVU Monongalia County Ballpark in Morgantown, West Virginia. McKinley Sports was responsible for the full scope of field-related design, including dynamic subsurface drainage, stormwater management systems, overall field layout, and the specification of the synthetic turf system.
We also provided comprehensive construction observation services throughout the build process to ensure proper installation and quality control of the turf system. The field was constructed during the winter of 2013–2014 and completed in time for the start of the 2014 spring baseball season.
The ballpark, which continues to serve as a premier collegiate and minor league facility, is currently home to the West Virginia University Mountaineers baseball team and the West Virginia Black Bears, a minor league affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The high-performance synthetic field system remains a vital component of the facility’s long-term durability and versatility, supporting frequent use and maintaining excellent playability throughout the season.
