Parkersburg High School was founded in 1867 and was one of the first high schools in the state of West Virginia. This structure was originally built in 1917, making it one of the oldest school buildings in WV, and it is now grown to be one of the largest high school campuses in the state. PHS was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 (NRHP Reference #: 92000895).
This $20 million addition / renovation project, for Wood County Schools, encompassed all of the original building, an addition of a gymnasium and a three story science and cafeteria wing.
The gym included a center court for basketball, with 2 cross courts, 2 scoreboards, PA & Sound System, wall mounted safety pads, bleachers, and more.
Being a historic school with a strong alumni association, it was paramount that the original historic caricature of the building remained intact. The original building features extensive stone work and exquisite interior plaster work detailing. Our design protected the grand front façade in favor of additions to the rear of the building. We carefully matched the profiles of the stone and matched the brick to give a seamless transition from the old and new structure on the exterior.
