Project Overview

Wheeling Park High School’s athletic facilities were upgraded through the transformation of the existing natural grass softball field into a dual-purpose synthetic turf complex. The completed design accommodated both a full-size high school softball field and an overlapping soccer field, enhancing field versatility, durability, and drainage for year-round athletic use.

The McKinley Sports Team provided full design, documentation, and permitting services for the project. The scope included topographic surveying, stormwater management design, turf subgrade preparation, drainage infrastructure, fencing, curbing, ADA-accessible walkways, and a newly constructed parking area developed through strategic cut and fill grading.

Field design was tailored to the existing site constraints, with soil infiltration testing and grading coordinated to ensure long-term performance. In partnership with Gateway Engineers, the McKinley Sports Team managed NPDES permitting and stormwater approvals through the West Virginia DEP and City of Wheeling. The team also supported the project with limited construction observation and key design coordination meetings to help ensure successful implementation of the school’s athletic vision.
