The McKinley Sports Team partnered with Brooke High School to provide a full-service solution for the design, planning, and construction observation of a new synthetic turf athletic field and upgraded track system. Leveraging extensive experience in converting natural grass fields to synthetic turf, the team ensured the project avoided common pitfalls and delivered a high-performance, long-lasting facility.
Initial site testing included excavation and infiltration assessments at six locations to evaluate soil conditions and water retention. These findings directly informed the sub-base design and stormwater management strategy. Based on the results, McKinley worked closely with school officials to develop a tailored construction plan that addressed both athletic performance and site drainage.
McKinley Sports delivered a comprehensive construction document package, including demolition plans, stormwater management reports, turf layout drawings, grading and sub-base plans, and full track layout and marking diagrams. Attention to detail extended to turf logo design, color specifications, and full compliance with West Virginia high school athletic standards.
To ensure the track system aligned with the school’s needs, the team conducted a usage analysis and collaborated with coaches to select the most appropriate surface—balancing cost, performance, and athlete impact.
Throughout the design, bidding, and construction phases, McKinley Sports facilitated key stakeholder meetings, provided bid support services, and conducted weekly site visits. Construction observation services included reviewing payment applications, shop drawings, field performance, and punch list closeout—ensuring the final product met the highest standards of safety, functionality, and craftsmanship.
