Project Overview

The McKinley Sports team (formerly JTSA Sports) partnered with Toronto City Schools to design and complete a dual-field athletic facility renovation at the district’s main campus. The project involved the conversion of two existing natural grass fields—a multi-sport field and a softball field—into state-of-the-art synthetic turf playing surfaces.

This project built on McKinley’s continued partnership with the district, having previously completed the design and construction of the baseball field, football field, and multipurpose field.

The multi-sport field, originally constructed using fill material from the 2011 school development project, was upgraded with improved stormwater controls that tied into the parking lot storm system. The design also addressed limited ADA accessibility by incorporating new walkways and fencing to improve access from the existing entrance drive.

The adjacent softball field, a regulation 200-foot high school field last renovated in 2016, was also converted to synthetic turf. The new design integrated with the existing drainage swale, ensuring controlled outfall release to the nearby river system. New fencing was incorporated within a curb system to enhance player safety and site aesthetics.

Both fields were designed under a single construction document and permit package to streamline bidding and permitting processes. McKinley Sports managed the project from site evaluation through permitting, design documentation, and construction oversight.
